Solid Performance Gaming Headset with Customizable Lighting Effect
Solidly built, comfortable, featuring excellent sound, active noise cancelling and both wireless and wired connectivity.
There’s plenty to like about this wireless gaming headset from JBL.
Sleek design, nifty lighting
The JBL Quantum 800 is built from solid plastic, with the ear cups made from thick and comfortable, leatherette-covered memory foam.
The headband is also well padded and fits snugly on the head.
For a bit of added spice, the outside of the cups feature the JBL logo with lighting that you can customise.
Gaming controls and microphone
The many controls for this wireless gaming headset are on both of the ear cups.
The left earcup features the volume wheel, a microphone mute button, the 3.5mm input, the USB-C port for charging the headset, a game/chat balance wheel so you can adjust the volume of the game vs the chat, and the button for active noise cancelling.
The right earcup houses the power switch and the Bluetooth pairing button.
The boom mike is attached to the outside of the left earcup and automatically switches on as you flip it down and off as you flip it up.
The sound quality from the mic is very good without being outstanding. There is also an issue in that if you shake your head from side to side, the microphone tends to drop down from its ‘up’ position.
Impressive sound and noise cancellation
The JBL Quantum 800 features lossless 2.4GHz audio.
If you are gaming on PC, you can take advantage of DTS Headphone X 2.0 simulated surround sound as well as JBL’s QuantumSurround through the JBL Quantum Engine software.
Both these features provide precise sound so you can clearly differentiate between different types of gunfire and different footsteps when gaming, for example.
The software includes a 10-band equalizer so you can customise your sound levels.
Keep in mind you won’t have the surround sound options if you are using the headset on a console or your phone.
A key feature of this wireless gaming headset is its noise cancellation, which, while not on the level of top-priced headsets, is still very effective. If you happen to be gaming in a noisy environment, this feature will serve you well.
Versatile connectivity
Connectivity with the JBL Quantum 800 won’t be an issue, as you’ve got three options: wireless through USB, wireless through Bluetooth 5.0 and wired, through its 3.5mm connector.
So whether you want to play through your PC, your phone or consoles such as PS5 and PS4, XBox Series X, S and One and Nintendo Switch, its range of connectivity has you covered.
Battery life dependent on gaming mode
The amount of juice you get from the battery depends on whether you deploy the ear cup lights or not. You might expect to enjoy about 8 hours of gaming with this wireless gaming headset if you have them on. However, if you leave the lights off, JBL says you’ll get about 14 hours’ use from the Quantum 800.
Charge time from empty is two hours and you won’t be able to use the headset while it’s being charged.
PROS
CONS
The JBL Quantum 800 is a solid offering in the mid-range wireless gaming headset category. Its connectivity options mean you can use it with a broad range of gaming platforms.
The sound is impressive, however, you will need to pair it with a PC to make the most of its sound options.
Its other key feature is its excellent noise cancelling, which means you don’t have to worry about external noise while you game.
Battery life is quite good if not outstanding, and some users might be hoping for more than the roughly 8 hours you will get while gaming with earcup lights on.
